A very good flintlock British military Shortland Musket, Circa 1745. The shortland musket replaced the Longland Musket,this was the second pattern "Brown Bess".The heavy construction, with three quarter walnut stock and regulation brass mounts. An escutcheon on the wrist gives the identity of the battalion and reads: 3d=G L 35. ( third division, Grenadiers, light company, number 35 ). The 42 inch barrel, with good proofs is in very good condition, giving a full length of 58 inches. The massive lock showing double line border and the TOWER on the tail, with the Crown and GR cypher in the centre, this is in excellent condition.
