A fine British made clip piont Bowie. This was presented during the American Civil War to Lt J.W.Travers of the confederate 2nd Cavalry, in 1864. Northern troops in the cavalry were not issued Bowie Knives and would not have carried them as it would have been considered "out of uniform". The Bowie is in very good condition, being 16.5 inches over all, with an 11 inch blade. The ware to one side of the stag horn handle suggests that it was carried by Lt Travers during the war.The presentation inscription is engraved into the brass back of the knife as follows, Presented to Lt J.W.Travers 2nd Cavalry from C.W.Crowley 1864.
