An excellent, rare, transitional period percussion pistol, by Avery of 63 New Bond Street London. A good figured 3/4 walnut stock, with horn forend and chequered grip. Horn tipped ramrod. Finely engraved steel mounts and lock ( signed Avery ), 12 inches over all with a 7 inch octanonal damascus barrel. The barrel signed 63 New Bond Street London, with an inlayed silver block stamped Avery London and inlayed silver breach bar. The rare percussion action was designed to give instant ignition on contact with the cap and was adopted by some of the major makers of the time, such as Manton for a short period. The stock has a few minor nocks and scratches through use as you would expect, but all mounts and lock are in perfect condition and working order. Good browned damascus barrel, signed. An excellent and very rare period piece.
