A very good 1796 British Light Cavalry Troopers Sabre. The 32.5 inch deep central fullered blade retaining 90% of it's original finish, with only very minor patches of surface rust. The grip made from wood covered in leather, of which most is still present although very thin but adding to give a very good overall patina, only a very small amount of wood loss and minor worm holes. This sabre was retailed by Thomas Gill, London and shows this in it's engraving on the blade, "Tho Gills, Warranted Never to fail". A harsh reminder of those times.38 inches overall length. The heavy steel scabbard with two suspension rings has a few minor splits to it's base and pitting overall, but in the main is in good order.
