An excellent 1796 pattern British infantry, flank officers sabre. This sabre however is of note, as it was issued to a flank officer of the Prince of Wales regiment during the Napoleonic wars. The sabre is 35.75 inches over all with a 31 inch curved, plain, central fullered blade. The blade showing 90% of it's original finish, with small minor surface rust patches in a few areas .The regulation stirup hilt showing the coranet and three feathers, "the Prince of Wales crest" on the back strap and still retaining a small amount of the original gilding. The wire bound leather grip is in very good condition. The original scabbard and mounts, showing ware throughout, as would be expected. This is a very fine period peice.
